The Big Fat Tip celebrated its 6th anniversary by handing out six surprise $1,000 tips to randomly selected U.S. service workers. We typically do the anniversary drop in our hometown of Lakeland, Florida, but after Hurricane Helene devastated Cedar Key, we felt that we could make a bigger impact there. We didn’t need to draw a business out of a hat or flip a coin; there were only six open that day that aligned with our schedule. Cedar Key continues to rebuild, many more businesses have opened, and they are ready to serve you! Cedar Key is a special place. Go see it for yourself. The Big Fat Tip #72 – Cafe Bea – Miami, Florida – November 10, 2024 We absolutely loved this server’s reaction when we dropped number 72! Big Fat Thanks to Cosmos Restaurant for covering the cost of half of this tip! They were randomly selected for drop 68, and the owner was so moved by his server’s reaction that he immediately donated to sustain the momentum. Special thanks to our monthly Tipping Titans: Brad Sundgren, Mike Chamberlain, and Eric and Kelly. And another shout-out goes to Mark Dorsey, who donated funds that were spread across several drops. Big Fat Tip #68 happened in Orange Beach, Alabama, on October 30, 2024, at the end of the Mississippi Society of Association Executives conference. We want to give a huge thanks to our donors, who are listed at the end of this video. We couldn't do these drops without their support! She was so touched - as were we. There wasn't a dry eye at that table. Her manager even got emotional. Big Fat Tip #67 was our first drop in Connecticut! Shout out to Valerie Gordon for creating a show worth traveling to see and to Jess Danner McKenna for offering a free plane ticket to get there. Big Fat Thanks to the anonymous donor who covered the $1,000 tip! Sadly, most surprises we experience as adults are negative, like car accidents, medical diagnoses, and catastrophic storms. This little passion project creates positive, memorable moments instead. We love doing these drops, and our volunteers often say, "I want to do another one right now!" Our only regret is that we are not bigger because everyone needs a little bit of hope and a whole lotta love.
